It's a bicycle, not a tractor.

You can fit a Presta in a Schraeder hole but you can't fit a Schraeder in a Presta hole, get the drill out ๐Ÿ˜‰

8mm drill bit, 30s of your time.

you can get plastic reducers if you really want to run presta but then why would you unless its a road bike.

Schrader tubes are rubbish. FACT.

I presume, although they're UST that you're planning on running them with tubes rather than tubeless? In which case why not just buy some normal rims?
If you ever want to convert to tubeless later you won't be able to, you'll have effectively wrecked a tubeless compatible rim.

Either
a) bite the bullet and run tubeless
b) buy some Presta tubes

Presta are so much better anyway.

why will he have wrecked a tubeless wheelset crazy legs? You can buy schraeder valves on rim strips for tubeless i think

just been had with a set of wheels described as good but pretty much needing new hubs so been asking on the classifieds for a set of 20mm bolt through wheels and 135mm rear (QR or 10mm) as cheap as possible. Been offered a couple of sets, only one person has replied to me on email.

Noticed the rims are presta, just wandering what the best thing to do is. been reading into this quite a bit, people saying drilling weakens the rim etc but can't see how if rims can be bought as either fitment. just found an adaptor that lets you use a schraeder pump so thats one headache out of the way i suppose

i have found arguements for both valves being better, is it all down to personal preference?

why are schrader so rubbish? they do the same job, yet they're much more difficult to break compared to presta with their weak unscrewy thing...

It is a valve no idea why anyone would prefer one type over the other it either works or does not and both work so who cares or has an aopinion on this?
Does it weaken rim ...presumably the extra fraction of a mil has an effect that can be measured by a hugely sensitive machine but essentially NO effect of slightly bigger hole. Rims dont crack in the middle.
I have one pair drilled [not by me] just by presta valves IMHO re tubeless argument above.

If Presta's are so good why are air shocks fitted with Schraeder's? ๐Ÿ™„

Depends I guess. If you only ride MTB there's no real difference. I ride MTB, road and CX, the road and CX bikes come with Presta anyway, there's no alternative. My tubeless wheelset is presta so it makes sense that all my MTB tubes are presta as well.

I've done it on a few rims, and never suffered any failure. Just take your time and do it carefully. Use a small file to take off any burrs or sharp edges afterwards.

I prefer Schraeder on an mtb, as fiddling with the silly little screw-in thingy when it's cold and wet isn't my idea of fun. And yes, I've had them break off. Presta are for high pressure tyres, like on road bikes and that.

good point dibbs
fair point there too crazy-legs, makes sense to keep em all the same

i have always used schraeder, not by choice its just what came with my original wheels a few years back so stuck with them

There's no discernible benefit in using either valve

If you're a bit heavy handed with things or have a hand full of thumbs, Schrader may be the best bet though

yes because all shocks /forks only run at low pressure. It is a valve either will cope with the PSI of inner tubes road or MTB
Wise words to that trolling attention seeking fool. Some people you just cnat teach some need a few lessons to learn though ๐Ÿ˜‰

Both valves do the same job - no difference in the performance.

Personally I prefer the way presta works with a simple push on track pump head. Also better on group rides for spare tubes as presta will be ok on either type of 'valve holed' rim.

Can you get proper tubless valves in Schraeder? maybe worth checking if you want to run tubeless in the future?

literally no difference in performance. Schraeders dead easy to pump up when in the middle of a boggy moor and cr4p everywhere whilst pi55in down and mud in the valve - just use presta's. As for people snapping presta's..WTF are people doing !! Wouldnt worry about drilling a rim but cant see the point in this instance.
