Excuse the slightly tongue in cheek title, but an explanation:

Came to mountain biking via my Airnimal Rhino with 20" wheels. Then bought a Kona 29er rigid singlespeed for Swinley duties, which I love. Was planning on a FS 29er later this year. Possibly an Orange 5.

But....

Found myself in a bike shop on Wednesday and fondled a Cannondale Scalpel. Carbon, light, beautiful, my size... and not ridiculously expensive. And vastly better specced than the 29er's I would expect to buy.

So should I? Would the light carbon Scalpel in 26" wheels be all the bike I need? This for trail centre duties and XC racing (hope to improve on my recent outings on the singlespeed).

I'd welcome comments. As I said, I have no experience of 26ers (other than my tandem!). So my experience is quite possibly unique.

No 26ers are rubbish, toy bmx looking bikes.

Dont touch them with a barge pole.

My Airnimal is the bmx looker.

I just fancy carbon, and the cost saving put it in reach.
