[#7245618]

I'll be in Penrhyn this week and will have the opportunity to get out for an hour or 90 mins on my road bike.

Anyone kind enough to point me in the direction of some nice quiet lanes, preferably with hills? Otherwise I'm just going to do laps of the Orme.

Bonus points for link to a Strava ride so I can pinch the GPX.

Why not take a proper bike?

Easy enough to ride from Llandudno to Conwy mountain way. Who doesn't love riding up hills next to the sea?

Route 5 of the national cycle network mostly off road on tarmaced paths,

ride around the great orme and to the top.

Llandudno to conway onto the sychnant pass down to Penmaenmawr and return along route 5.

Down the conway valley to llanwrst.

Second Conwy Mountain though. There are some cracking tracks up there.

If you want quiet country roads with hardly any traffic, plus lovely rolling scenery with plenty of hills, then head out of Llandudno for the A55/A470 roundabout, and then from the smaller of the two roundabouts (the one by the Shell garage) take the B5381 uphill for a few miles until it joins the B5113. Continue along the B5113 for as long as you like towards Llanrwst and when you've had enough just turn round and it's mostly downhill on the way back.

Pity about not taking the MTB, I love it. One of my fav loops is round there and up to the Drum and finish on Conwy Mountain.

Anyway, you could try just plotting something on bike hike. Head from Conwy to Tal-y-cafn, cross the river, head over to Pentre r Felin, Trofarth, then up towards Llanelian yn Rhos and back to the coast. Plenty of litle hills and lanes round there.

So I went up the Orme this evening.

Took a wrong turn and hit the climb to the ski centre at 10 mins into my ride.

Jesus that was steep. It's the first time I've had to get off my road bike for about 25 years.

At least I didn't try to ride up the tramway road I ended up going down on the way back. Bloody scary descending that though.

Had a couple of laps of the Orme and another trip to the top in glorious sun today.

Wonderful road with a real Mediterranean feel. Almost like riding on closed roads, with so little traffic and being one way.

I ran out of light on the first ride and didn't go all the way round. So glad I went back though, absolutely fantastic bit of road.

Sadly I'm back home now or we'd all have come down to cheer Jezza.

While I was there I took the dog for a walk up the hill next to the Little Orme, looks like there'd be a great little cheeky trail down to Bodafon Rd (if it was pruned back a bit).

Quick snap from the top of the Orme...

the orme is a fine and much neglected (thankfully ) road--making motorists pay seems to keep them under control -although if you drive up the tram way you can bear off and avoid the toll joining the marine drive near the lighthouse.....

That tram road - the real steep bit - it says 20% on the sign but feels much steeper.

What you reckon?

we ride that way to the summit cafe--it has a steep section for a few yards--just after halfway station , a road bears off to your right , that takes you to marine drive just south of the old lighthouse...
