hi
I've heard of shoe repairers stripping off the sole of mtb shoes and replacing with a full length mid sole followed by the original sole , to alleviate LLD problems
Has anyone had this done by a UK cobbler please and what was the cost
Cheers

I get mine done (MC accident, left leg 1 1/8" shorter) through our local orthotics dept. Very important to do this unless you want to run the risk of curvature of the spine ๐Ÿ˜ฏ No cost, just a couple of weeks wait for turnaround. SPD shoes are a little more complicated, needing a spacer manufactured to bring the cleat out ๐Ÿ™‚

Longer/shorter crank only "works" for discrepancies in thigh length.

And it barely works, just sort of half masks the issue and potentially gives you all sorts of fresh issues to deal with.

OP, is this an LLD thats been diagnosed and measured/documented and is definitely causing an issue (as Oink1) or just something you think you need to fix, because you think you have a problem caused by LLD?

If the former you should be able to get some sort of treatment/help from a good bike fitter (most aren't). If it's the latter, get it looked at properly first, a good number of LLDs are quite simple to minimise (but not eliminate) by correcting other posture issues first, then dealing with the residual LLD.

I've been through this myself....... and managed with just a small shim under one cleat, after they dealt with the wobbly hip and the funky spine.

many thanks for all of the contributions so far

I've come to the conclusion after following Steve Hogg and Kit Laughlins protocols-prompted by longterm on and off the bike functional difficulties and symptoms ;I've had osteopathic and physio help to no avail.
I'll be shimming my road shoes , but need a build up for my mtb Sidis , as they are less amenable to shimming more than 3mm
I know that people have had midsoles interposed between Sidi outsole s and shoes-thats what I'm seeking
cheers
