[#6201755]

Trying to get the shock out of my Orange Alpine 160. ITs a fox float ctd with the low friction bushes. The top of the shock comes out fine, but the lower part in the lower shock mount wont move whatsoever.

Ive tried nudging it with a mallet but so far to no avail.

Any tips?

DO not GT85 near your shock bushes....this is a bad idea.

try levering with a nylon tire lever or such.

On my cannondale my sweat had corroded the bush to the linkage mmmmmmmm lovely so I used a LOT of WD40 and left it lying on its side overnight so the WD40 would soak in. Came out quite easily after that.

Don't really fancy putting gt85 or wd40 near a £250 shock.

on the other hand if your removing it to replace the bushes then fire on with the gt85

Removing it to put on another frame. Bushes are all fine. What after effects might it have?

the PTFE that provides the self lubricating action in the bushes breaks down/wears off once you apply the extra lube..

1. STOP using a mallet.
2. Start using a ratchet strap.
3. make sure there's something padded between where the shock will exit and the frame.
4. ratchet away.

Unfortunately. That's not worked either!

Is the bike still in one piece?

Leave the bolt out of the stuck end, bolt the other end back in, go for a ride. When you get out of hospital you should find the shock's come loose.

Not being funny but are you completely sure the shock hardware's out? You've not just removed the bolts but left the pin in the shock?

Whole bit of shock hardware is out. Including the tube that goes through the middle. It's just very stuck.

Bike is just the frame now.

GT85 will be fine. It only needs to be on there literally for seconds.

I'd be asking for your money back for the 'low friction bushes' 😉

As above, lube + rubber mallet if possible...

My Five frame did this(after a re-spray).What i did was get a screwdriver.Wrap it in a rag.Go in from underneath and lever the shock up and forward while wiggling the shock from the other end.
Bingo.comes out a treat.Wait till you try and get it back in.That's where the fun starts.
Iv'e took a file to mine and took the excess paint off around where the bushings sit.Problem solved.

Dead blow hammer instead of rubber mallet.

Thanks for the help guys.

The ratchet did it eventually. Getting it in was great fun. Only took another hour 😉

Much better shock now though.

Anybody interested in a 2013 Alpine frame in 16 inch with RP23 shock?
