Felt a bit of play in the rear of my Banshee Phantom when lifting the saddle.. assumed it was the shock bushing.

When I took it apart the axle/pin tube is snug in the bushing but the shock bolt is slightly loose in the axle/pin tube.

Is it normal for wear to occur there, as opposed to the bushing?

It's normal on any bike for there to be play between the pin/bolt/screw and the reducers, they're not supposed to be a tight fit as the shock bolt uses the frame to clamp everything in place.

Chances are that it's still the bush (or a bearing in the rear end) that needs replaced, as the leverage makes the play much more pronounced when it's on the bike

Unless very worn you'll probably not notice the play in the individual components which you can feel when it's all on the bike.

Been going around in circles with something similar on my Phantom. It's definitely coming from the front end bolt and really overtightening it sorts it for a while. Ordered a new bush to see what happens.

Done it from new, really should have taken it back to the shop by now!

That's a usual sign of a worn shock bushing when you lift the bike and feel that bit of movement. As said above you won't be able to feel the play once the shock is removed and you try to jiggle it by hand. The mounting hardware can wear too, especially if you've been riding around with a worn bushing.
