...how long should they last? The lower shock mounting bushings on my Blur LTc are quite worn after ~10 months use, resulting in a lot of play and a god-awful squeaking when riding. As I understand it, these are engineered to wear in order to save the shock...? Should I just expect to be replacing them every 6 months or so (I really should have done it a while back), or is there some kind of maintenance I can do to them to extend their life? Cheers.
Sounds about right, nowt wrong with that length of time for a £2 sacrificial part.
Never heard of any way of extending there life, other than buying a quality bush, but I'll stick with my shorter lived & cheaper ones from the bearing suppliers
yeah agreed, sounds fair enough if they're that cheap. It's taken me the best part of a month to track down the source of the bloomin squeak though! At least I'll know next time...!
The ones on my Five lasted almost 3 years, but now one is worn - it makes the worst racket imagineable, and has worn out the hardware with it, so need a new bushing and new shock mount bolt, can't wait to have it fixed, I hate my bike at the moment!
But, you can't grumble at about £10 worth of bits every 3 years!
Depends on the frame, but I certainly have to replace my swingarm end shock bushing every 6 months or so.
You can get 'strong bushes' from the likes of TFT and Betd that replace the aluminium reducers/mount kit with a stainless steel version and uses seals and polymer bushes to try and reduce the effects of dirt/cleaning.
Not sure how much longer they last though - only just fitted one to my bike last week.
yep, disposable part.
Depends MASSIVLY (obviously) on the linkage setup.
eg: a lapierre shock, as it passes through the stroke, will pivot the bush all of probably around 10 degrees at most.
on a trance shock, or other maestro, the top rocker rotates over 90 degrees through the stroke, wearing it much quicker.
[toddles off to google blurlt]
i reckon the top eye will pivot a tiny amount, but the linkage bit will pivot about 50 to 60 degrees?
get on betd, and buy the tool.
3 quid every 10 months isnt all that bad.
Just replaced the top shock bush on my canzo after about 5 months. Used a poly type effort from TFT. £10 for 4. Will have to see how long they last
