[Closed] Shock base tune - how much does it matter?

Need a shock before Tenduro (weekend after next). Air leaking out of shaft on current one and too late to get a service. Found a second hand one, but the bloke sold it this morning after saying I could buy this afternoon!
Found another one but it's an M/L tune and I need a L/L tune for a Bird AM160. Is it worth a punt on the M/L and will the difference be noticeable? It's for the lads bike not mine and he hits things hard but probably isn't that discerning.

If you can get the service kit, then an air can service to replace the seals / o-rings is dead easy to do and may well sort the issue for you (as long as the shaft etc. aren't damaged).

Yeah that was one option but it scares me!

It might well be wear on the shock body causing air leakage anyway.

Assuming your lad is lighter, going to a harder compression tune is probably a bad idea TBH.

Could you get something like a CCDB air, inline or Fox X2 which has external adjusters for a much wider range?

What size shock do you need?

Speak to Sprung Suspension, they have slots available next week so as long as they have/can get the parts you'll have it back before the race. Assuming it's not something completely disastrous and unfixable anyway

Oh, and we can do the service as long as we have the parts no worries if thats preferred. We have quite a lot of service parts in stock.

I've just fitted a coil to my AM9 so have the old duluxe sat in the garage, which I've not got round to selling yet.

I think it's got the L/L tune, but would have to double check. I'm fairly sure the AM160 and AM9 have the same stroke and length.

If you're interested give me a PM.

it matters ๐Ÿ™‚
on my aeris 145 i bought a light compression, medium rebound....both supposed to be L L
i literally have to run zero rebound damping as its adequate as is... if i was any lighter, i may (may still be) over damped...
likewise.. i dont tend to run any LSC either so a medium compression tune would have not been ideal for me
