Any idea how much a $950 frame would cost me by the time it landed on my doorstep?

www.dutycalculator.com if that doesnt work, I think it will be roughly +20% for VAT

+ shipping cost (have a look and see, but I think you will be looking at £150 ish for the size of a well packed frame, even if its light).
+ 3.7% import duty
+ £10 ish handling fee from the courier for collecting duty/vat
+ 20% on all of that for VAT

All together you are basically looking at £1000 GBP.

This was discussed not long ago

I've not not long imported a frame myself and responded on the thread above.

I've just paid import duty on my Steve Potts in within the last month.

I paid the following on what was marked up as bike parts (Frame, fork, bars, stem, seatpost.)

The price for the 'parts' was $4465 US dollars which is around £2878 (This included the postage)

My import duty and VAT was £751.82.

Hope this helps.

On the $4465 US dollars I paid:

£599.03 Import VAT
£134.45 duties
£18.34 Brokerage surcharges

Total £751.82 GBP

Cameras have a particularly high rate of duty. IIRC, bike parts are 3.7% but complete bikes are 14%. So, if you're buying a bike from the US, ask them to split it into two deliveries.

Cheers. I have been looking at Pedal Force frames, I did so because a 'manufacturer' I was interested in admitted that these were the very same frames they were selling i.e another $800 for forks and paint.

Their $950 Ti and carbon frame appeals.

My road bike has a PF frame which I imported - as mentioned above, 4.7% duty (on price including shipping), 20% VAT (on price including shipping and duty), £8 for handling fee to ParcelFarce. Still made it a bargain.

Bought two Bike Fridays from the states this year - basically add on a third for VAT and import duty (and if i remember rightly thats on top of the item and shipping costs combined) - might be lower if its just a frame though.
