I ordered a sram 7 speed shifter for my daughters bike as the Shimano twist really hurt her hands.
The changes of shifter and grips has transformed the bike and she loves riding it. However I didn't check Shimano compatibility with the sram shifter. Having tried to sort the indexing I've come to the conclusion the pull ratios are different.
Does anyone know if there is a hack to work a Shimano mech with a sram shifter?
failing that, Stealth wanted ad alert. Does anyone have a Shimano 7 speed shifter in their parts bin?
Thanks for any assistance
Shimano Revo Shift twist shifters are generally the lightest action of any shifter, and can be gripped with a whole hand, which is why they put them on kids bikes... I'd have changed the cable first...
Anyway, SRAM shifters with numbers - X5, X4, X9 etc will only work with SRAM mechs. If they have a name - Attack, MRX etc, they're Shimano compatible.
If you've got it wrong it will be MILES out on the indexing, not just a little bit!
With the price of cheap mechs these days I can't see the point of trying a workaround, I'd just get a new mech, or see if anyone on the classifieds has one they'll give away
