I have the M988 brakes on my good bike. I have had them just over a year and had no problems with them. I have bled them a couple of times and worked perfectly.

However last week the lever become stuck and was not releasing like it should. I proceeded to bleed them fully again, but I couldn't get the fluid pushed through. I thought it may be the hose but I disconnected it and it's clear. Just seems like it's the lever that is blocked / something not right in it.

Any ideas??

From those symptoms I would guess that the shaft that runs from the lever into the piston has snapped. Turn the lever over and look in the gap underneath.

also have a look at the tiny pin and 'roller' that guides the lever through its stroke, my brake suffered the same symptoms as the ones you describe...turns out the little roller that sits on the pin had broken...whole new lever assembly time for mine (got an xt trail brake and just used that £30 from crc), fitted yesterday and just back from its maiden shakedown....

Sounds exactly the same symptoms as on my XT m985 brakes.
The lever just went dead all if a sudden, wouldn't return out and pumping did nothing.

I also tried to bleed and basically made a mess as the syringe tried to deal with pumping fluid where fluid did not want to go.

Currently trying to sort it out under warranty if I can.

Starting to miss my hopes, you could rebuild everything on them....

Ah sounds like it's becoming a bit common then!

Spoke to the shop I bought it from an they are happy to take it back and send it to the shimano suppliers. Hopefully get it fixed.

Cheers for the replies!
