[#2895730]

Currently have 2003 XTR dual control. Want to upgrade to latest separate brakes and gears. Does anybody out there know if the new XTR (988) levers will work with old (2003 year) XTR rotors. This would be the cheapest straight swap. I could then get one rapidfire shifter for my 1x9 setup.

The rotors will be fine with most brakes. Did you mean new levers compatible with the old calipers? Afraid I cant answer that, although I'd like to know.

Yes sorry, I meant calipers. My own flawed logic thinks that they should be fine, but I don't want to experiment at the price of a set of levers.

The new XTR brakes work on a much smaller amount of fluid. My thinking is the lever wouldn't push enough fluid to move the pistons fully. I may be wrong and would like to actually see this combination in action.

That is what I understand to be the case, the new hose is smaller diameter too, so I'm not sure it'll work.

Hmm, thanks guys, knew Shimano wouldn't be able to keep the backwards compatibility going on for ever!

It is not a definite no, just not a definite yes!
