This may be a simple question, but it's only simple if you know the answer right?
I need to relapce my jockey wheels on my xt rear mech. How do you tell the difference between a tension pulley and a guide pulley? Can the jockey wheels really be that different?
It says top & bottom on them. Oh & yes they are different, if my memory serves me correctly they have a diffferent number of teeth on each (though i could be mistaken).

Top ones float laterally IIRC.
The jockey wheels will have written on them top, bottom. Which will tell you which one is the top & which is the bottom. Strangely enough...
So as I need to replace top and bottom jockey wheels, I need both tension and guide variety?
The "jockey pulley" is the top pulley (closest to the gears).
The bottom pulley is the "tension pulley"... takes up the slack and doesn't need the side-to-side play.
Problem solved.
Get the [url= http://www.dotbike.com/productsP3992.aspx ]BBB ones from dotbike[/url] - they even have 'top' and 'bottom' written on them.
Guide (top) pulley has a ceramic bushing, has side to side float to aid shifting.
Tension (bottom) pulley has a bearing, does not float side to side.
As an aside, has anybody used the KCNC jockey wheels?
