Hey guys,

Looking to buy some SPD SL pedals for the commuter.

I'm currently using "R540 Light Action" ones on the road bike.

I've just noticed though for a few ££ more I can get R550's.

Reviews seem to only be comparing the R550's against the new carbon 105's.

Are R550's worth the extra versus the R540's?

R550 are nicer. Wider pedalling platform, better looking.

I've had both, currently using the 550's
slightly wider, resin not alloy, so slightly lighter & look better IMO.
No problem with reliability with either.

I'm feeling a swap on the road bike to R550's and put the R540's on the commuter then 🙂

I'd be buying mtb pedals for a commuter, unless my walk was very short at the other end

I'm just going to carry some espadrilles to get me from the bike to my desk via the changing rooms.

HA, so I was clearly half asleep when I was dreaming up this idea..

Forgot I had a pair of M520's and a pair or Muddyfox MTB shoes - they ain't pretty and they're too wide now but they'll do for commuting, and I can walk in them!

Cheers, apologies for my idiocy!
