Ok, So I managed to blow the hose out of my Deore 596 lever (front) at the weekend, luckily only when squeezing it to get on the bike.

Obviously in order to refit I need a new olive (do I need a new insert at the same time? they come in a kit so probably a moot point), but there seems to be two sizes. 2.1 and 2.3mm  BH 90 and BH 59-63. Logic would say the BH59 is the one for 596 series brakes but the only reference I can find to 596 brakes is on a amazon listing for generic shimano olives and that says BH90...

Does anyone know which size I need, even epicbleed doesn't have the 596's listed.

My other slight concern is that the brakes had the hoses swapped for white about a year ago (they've been fine since) and I'm wondering if my mate who fitted and bled them for me used the wrong size hose. Why else would the hose suddenly blow out after a year?

My thoughts are that I could save myself the hassle and just buy new brakes as I think I have the deores with the misting calipers as the rotors always seem to be contaminated and need cleaning after every ride otherwise they squeal like a clown bike, also when the hose blew the oil rand down the hose onto the caliper and ruined the pads.

Thoughts?

BR-M596 should have BH90 hose and Y8JA98020 Olive & Connecter Insert. Insert needs to match the hose bore. Olive should be crushed onto the hose and requires replaced, insert could be very carefully cut out, but its not worth it (IMO), they are sold as an olive and insert anyway.

It is worth pricing up cheap calipers/brakes first, Shimano stuff has a 2 year warranty.

As above insert can be reused. You can use Magura olives too, as they use the same diameter hose.

I bought loads years ago when I ran Magura rim brakes on a bike, and discovered they seem to work fine on any bike with 5mm hoses

20 olives for £10 here....

You can check for the part number on the relevant exploded diagram for the component on the Shimano database
