I'm confused about all these Shimano numbers M 575, M770, M775, M970 etc
What do they all mean?
Are 5 series Deore?
7 Series XT?
9 Series XTR?
Presumably 775 is a leter version of 770?
What's the current numbers?
When were each set of numbers in production?
Anyone able to shed light on this?
First number is the series eg 5 is Deore 7 is XT 8 is Saint 9 is XTR
Second number is the year eg 770 is the newer than 760.
Third number indicates a model difference so for example XT cranks would be 770 for standard and 771 for the hybrid version.
I think XTR is up to series eight so the new stuff is all 980 and XT is on series seven so the newest XT stuff is 770
Still got my PDM737s.
SLX 6xx
Saint 8xx
Then you have M540 pedals which aren't aligned to any particular group.
The last number in the series is usually a variant on the current group.
i.e. All current XT stuff is 77x
eg M775 brakes are PM and M776 are IS.
