Am I right in thinking that a rear Shimano hub (XT-M756), uses 1/4" bearings in it?
I need some new ones, I'll just get them from a local hardware parts store unless someone can point me in the direction of a website selling decent ones for a good price?
Yep, 18 of them.

my lbs sold me 18 for £1, simple and sorted, even came with free advice on how to change them.
Worth getting decent ones

Tell 'em what hub etc.
They'll send the right stuff tout de suite, at a sensible price.

Cheers y'all.
Can get 20 grade 10 ones for ~£5 from t'internet - but i'll see what the LBS have in stock before i go rushing off!
Thanks for the suggestions guys, but being short on time this week to get down the LBS, i've ordered some grade 10 ones from a website. Will probably last longer than the hub but hopefully they'll last a wee bit longer...
