Help really just in the process in fitting shimano hollowteck2 cranks and bottom bracket to new cotic soul frame 73mm bb. Do i need any of the black plastic spacers in there, i used the same bb on my old soul frame which was 68mm bb an i had two spacers drive side and one on the other. cheers

1 spacer on the drive side only is correct for all bikes with a 73mm bb.

Enjoy the Soul! Cracking bike ๐Ÿ™‚

No its not. 1 spacer is correct, depends on your chainline whcih side you put it on

Surly if it put opposite side of drive all a spacer will be doing is spacing the crank arm out from the frame.
Will put one spacer in the drive side and that will give a bit more clearence for the drive rings from the frame..
Any body else how have you set up shimano bb for hollowtec 2 cranks on new cotic soul frame..

That's how I set my Soul up and the chainline is bang on. My understanding of the spacer on the drive side was to account for setups that use a bb mounted mech or chain device. If you do, replace the spacer with said bb mounted device. I guess you could use it to adjust chainline a bit but it's a bit of a kludge.

Standard is one on the drive side, none on the other. But Davidtaylforth's spot on, you might want to mess with that further depending on your own setup.

i run the spacer on the non-drive side (i think it gives a better chainline), chain ring clearance is not a problem. The only issue i have with it is the front mech can rub on the tyre in granny with big knobbly tyres on.

If you're not sure, just put one spacer on the driveside. That is the industry standard.

If you really want to muck about with chainline then feel free to put it where you like.
