Shimano from eBay/China. The real deal?

[#12678773]

SRAM Eagle low rent kit is worn out on my pushrod, and I've never been enamoured with it.

The most available Shamano 11 speed seems to come from China, but considering the price, I'm a little concerned it may be faked.

Anyone sourced a new groupset this way? I assume I'll have some protection from eBay if its obviously shady.

Bought quite a few groupset items from china with the most recent a deore 12 speed groupset - all genuine they usually sell less popular items for example, the shifter has a gear indicator. The fake stuff is chains and cleats.

Thanks jonk.

I have noticed that quite a few sellers bundle a Sunrace cassette in, but that wouldn't bother me too much.

I've just removed an XT M8120 rear mech and XT M8120 I-Spec shifter from a brand new bike - yours for £80 posted if that's any good to you tthew. They're unused so in perfect condition.

@salad_dodger thanks, but my hubs have a HG freehub, so shimano 12 speed would make everything else more expensive/complicated.

I'm in China and Shimano parts can be considerably less than you're paying in the UK. As always, check reviews with the seller. Cross your fingers with the import tax.

Yes, there's a problem with counterfeiting of high turnover parts. I have a KMC chain on a bike right now i'm going to have to remove and replace with a VGSports one (this brand is reliable so far, across 10 and 12 speed chains I've bought regularly from them). I can't get magic links to work with this fake chain. And when I split it, it feels like it's trying to explode in my face.

A friend bought some Shimano combined flat bar brake lever/shifters (21 speed) to fix an old hybrid.

Clearly fake, the seller refunded immediately he complained.

They didn't have the reach adjusts, and were much poorer quality than the seized ones that he already had

Had three sets of Shimano brakes off "riding is life" on eBay. From China.

If they aren't genuine I'll eat my hat.
All have been spot on and look and feel legit and have been abused.

They aren't boxed and appear to have come out of the backdoor of the factory.

If they are copies then they are very convincing ones as I've compared them to others and can't see a smidge of difference.

X2 sets of deores and 1 set of xt brakes that is.

Thanks for your latter responses gents. I've ordered them anyway, when they turn up I shall return with my thoughts!

A bit late for you, but for £70 you can buy Microshift AdventX 10 speed, cassette 11/48), derailleur & shifter from CRC.

You can spec it even cheaper if you lower the spec, 11 speed also an option.

CRC have great prices on Microshift and all the reviews are positive.
