Anyone know how interchangable Shimano freehubs are ? Sheldon reckoned '...Virtually all Shimano freehub bodies are interchangeable...' but Shimano say different :?

I think Sheldon is talking about cassette/freehub interchangeability there, whereas Shimano are talking about hub/freehub body interchangeability.

Sheldon says you can stick pretty much any cassette on any Shimano freehub body, with a few weird exceptions. That Shimano table seems to tell you which freehub bodies fit which hubs, should you need a replacement (I don't know what all the columns mean though, so I could be wrong).

I was looking at that very SB article earlier today to figure out if you could stick a 2010 SRAM 9 speed cassette on a 1996 Deore LX freehub - turns out you can, yay.
