So I decided to break the rules and disassemble my Shimano BB. It had seized solid and I guessed I had nothing to loose. It came apart easily and after a good clean and a good dollop of fresh grease it's now smooth as silk.

That is all.

What did you use to get it apart?

I use these:

Find it quite relaxing, so do it fairly regularly (more enjoyable than building a wheel for me). Get a decent life out of them, but I did crack one of the plastic covers the other day 😕

Yeah, those plastic outers crack very easily (I had a spare BB that I experimented with first). I used a small screwdriver and eased it out from the inside. Worked a treat.

While we're on, can anyone recommend a good cheap tacky waterproof grease for bearings?
