Has anyone successfully replaced the cup in a Shimano freehub? Following on from this thread a few days ago about my XTR wheelset, turns out it's all moot as the freehub cup has broken into a few pieces.

Looking about, it seems you can dismantle a Shimano freehub for servicing using a tool like this. This image shows a freehub body, but also the internal pawl system and to get to that you must be able to remove the cup.

and you can get replacement cups on Aliexpress here-

Has anyone done this?

Alternatively, has anyone any idea if, as that Aliexpress listing suggests, XT M8000 and XTR M9000 freehubs are interchangeable? A new XTR one is a LOT of money, being titanium and all.

Didn't cynic al used to say he had done this?ย  The cups are an interference fit and can be driven out?

They certainly are on cheaper hubs but on the posher hubs they look to be threaded. I've tracked down a YouTube video where a guy does it. Just seems spares are very hard to come by.

Press fit on hub shell and thread in on freehub bodies.
