[#5129721]

Quick techie question.
I'm replacing cranks, BB, front derailleur and shifters (all to XT). I have an SLX rear mech from '08. No idea of the model number. Will it work ok? Or is it time to change that as well?

And what is the actual difference between M770 and M771?

Cheers

I would say that it will work so long as you are trying to cover the amount of sprockets it was intended for. In other words, if it is a 9spd mech it may be a no no with a ten speed cassette.

And I think the difference between this two mechs is cage length.

slx will work as long as its the same speed. simple as that.

Thought as much. Ta. Might stretch to a new one anyway but to be honest the SLX rear mech has been bombproof. Seems daft changing it, cranks and rings are bashed and bent so need to go.

Found the difference on the cranks, M770 and M771 different ratios, 771 stiffer according to some.
M770 cheaper...choice made 😉
