following on from my sram 10 speed connector failure yesterday - managed to find the shimano chain connector pin that came with the chain - so have fitted that....
question is - as ive never done this before (always run sram powerlinks) i put the connector in, and for some reason i kept turning until the whole thing came out the opposite end (i thought it would stop me turning it at some point).....so i did it again, then looked the bit you snap off and leveled it up, then snapped off the excess....all seems ok now, but with it going through all the way once will it be weakened now?? is it risky running it, as my new connex quick link hasnt come yet?
cheers!
anybody please quickly if you can answer im suppose to be going out in an hour, will not bother if its destined to fail straight away
Don't worry, it should be fine. I doubt you can have weakend it at all.
cheers fella! so once that main bit of the pin is in place, it wont come out again (unless pushed by the chain tool)??....phewww good to know it should be ok......i should get a connex chain connector tomorrow so will wait for the fail until adding it- heres to hoping it doesnt fail tonight in this miserable weather ๐
Shimano joining pins look like two little joined metal sausages. you poke the first bit all the way through and then snap it off, leaving the 2nd sausage in the chain
steve thats what i did - but i ended up turning it all the way through complete.....the second time using the same sausage ๐ i snapped off the excess...question was just that i hope it hadnt weakened it etc as id put it fully through once before
oh!! your gonna die then
probably not, but you'll have worn the little lips on the joining link and it might not last as long as it should. i would ride it ๐
