[#421599]

I am in the process of building up a new bike, and I have managed to get a cheap 810 saint rear brake, so I am looking at getting another.

However I was wondering, could I put the back brake on the front (with the correct adaptor), and then buy a Saint servowave lever and a SLX caliper (or Saint 800 caliper) for the rear? would this work? or are there any gotchas as it seems you can mix and match calipers/levers on the Shimano brakes.

Anyone else already done this? or am I better off stumping up for another 810.

Should be able to sort out the 810 to run on the front, you can as you say mix and match the Shimano stuff quite well, I just added old style XTR calipers to an older entry level 525 set of brakes with stunning results.

ps the old style XTR calipers are very cheap, so might be an option when your looking at building up a brake, and theyre great for rear brake use as they are IS..

Cool, though so. Anyone know if a Hone caliper like this

Twin piston Hone M600

is a better bet than the XTR

Shimano XTR M965

Prety much 100% of shimano calipers and levers are compatible with each other.

No idea whats better, the 965 is shiny and says XTR on it, and works lovely.

They are probably quite similar in performance at a guess.

Hone = LX
Doubt if the performance is much different from the XTR but it'll definitely be heavier.

If it helps, I'm running new XT (servo-wave) lever with the same XTR caliper as your pic and it works perfectly.

Make sure you buy a rear one or you will end up needing an adaptor just to run a 160 disc.

Or if you was using on the front, you could run a rear caliper and a 180 without the adaptor.

Did you buy some shims?

XTR is one piece so supposedly stiffer than the two piece Hone caliper.

As others have said you can mix and match all Shimano levers and calipers.

So it does... all good. Would be interested to know what you think of the performance of it when its built, mine are truly stunning in my opinion.
