Seem confusing...
For XTR calipers and considering only metal compound there are two options for finned and two for unfinned.

Looks like some come with split pins and others don't but all compatible with BR-M9000. Does anyone know the difference in these?
Further, has anyone done a back-to-back between finned and unfinned and noticed any difference?
Cheers!
According the specs, as you have stated, all will work with BRM-9000.
As to the difference between finned/non-finned, I have tried both and there is very little difference in normal xc use, but if you were doing more long decents the I'd stick to finned, especially if you have the icetech rotors.
I keep the finned in all the time, but carry non-finned as trail spares as they are much less bulky/vulnerable in my pack
I suspect myself that the fins don't add much but at the heavier end of the spectrum and riding long steep descents I am a bit risk averse... I might do a back to back test with thermocouple attached ๐
It's differences in the back plates. F type finned are one piece back plate and fin, J type are two pieces joined together. On the non-finned the G04 type has holes in it where as the G03 does not.
Yeah - the photos on CRC look as you describe. The question, Shimano, is why? Is there any performance difference between the two?
This doesn't matter in the slightest in the overall scheme of things but I find it intriguing...
