Hi folks

I have an internally routed Shimano rear brake at the moment I think it is equivalent to Deore. I was wondering if it is possible to remove the piston and caliper leaving th hose in place and then fit zee brakes. Will the hoses do?

Many thanks
Dougie

Think Zee uses BH90 hose.
As long as the ends match the levers and caliper you should be fine.

Deore use different fittings to Zee at the Caliper end. Zee use a banjo fitting so you will need a new hose.

The answer is no - Zee calipers use the hose connection with a banjo fitting which Deore brakes don't use.

Edit - beaten to it !

The poster above has referred to the straight connection hose not the banjo type.

Thanks for the answers, is it possible to tape the new hose length to the end of the old one and just pull it through?

Yes - I've done that before.

But a better way is to use a SRAM "reverb stealth barb connector tool" which can be threaded into each end of the hose and not catch obstructions like tape.

I've also poked a short length of wire into either end for the same result.

Whatever method it's important to feed the hose and pull rather than just pull it through and hope !

If you had any slack in the hose fitted you could just cut off the end at the caliper and fit a banjo. Would only take a couple of cms tops - which you might have spare.

Edit: £8 from SJS

I wouldn't reuse the hose, simply because you will need a full system bleed.
You can't use a barb and do a straight hose for hose in swap due to the hardware.
So, you will need to
Remove the hose from the lever body.
Connect a piece of chase hose (old hardware free hose or the plastic inner stuff that frame only ship with.
Remove old hose to rear
Now from rear end of frame, attached the new hose to the chase and pull it forwards up towarda the bar.
Now all you need is a lever bleed and your old brakes will still work with a lever bleed.
