Always used Sram but fancy trying shimano for my 1x10 set up. CRC have the m770 shifter for £23 in the clearance sale, is it worth the extra £22 for the new M780 ?
Thanks
£22 = 1 extra gear!
Well both are 10 speed but just wondering if new xt is a lot better than the older stuff
whoops! my bad.. Usually they change the number if they make a change like that.. I thought they'd be 771 for 10spd..
Can't help then. I've got some 770 9spd ones and they're grand. I doubt there's much difference 770-780 in use. Both will be really dependable, so I'd save the £22.
Thats what i thought, M770 for £23 it is then
I had M770 (9 speed) shifters and they worked and shifted very nicely but have gone 10 speed with the brand new M780 shifters and they are far superior.
Much more positive and crisper action, a real joy to use and worth the extra cash if you can afford it.
My M780s also have a switch to go from a triple to double front which is handy and not sure if the 770s have the same option.
Depending on which brakes you have may mean you'll struggle for matchmakers, if you go down that route. Just something to keep in mind.
Hmmm might be worth the extra after all then, dont need a front shifter coz it's 1x10, would be used with a M780 rear mech so might be a good idea to get the matching shifter
Yea, I am with yer man up there. The 780 shifters feel real nice. However they no longer have the wee cap under the shifter window to plug the hole if you take the shifter windows off... Its a different shaped part that screws on
I got mine from Rose Bikes and they didn't come with it, some people say you do get it with them, but the shimano instructions I got clearly said it was sold seperately
And nobody in the UK has it for sale and its on a ridiculously long lead time with Madison bringing it in
I got rose bikes to order it in for me and its currently in the post.
I've gone from 9 speed m770 to 10 speed m770 and the shifting is noticeably better. I stuck on new cables and a new shadow plus mech so not a direct comparison, but from what I've read the 10 speed shifter mechanism is a different design to the 9 speed, so whatever shifter you go for the shifting will be better.
