[#8385812]

Darkside bike, 10 speed Tiagra groupset.

It's never shifted properly since new, but I've not ridden it much until recently so not got round to fixing it.

When shifting up through the 5th and 4th largest sprockets the shifter requires another good push after the initial click before it'll change, almost two full clicks. All other sprockets it shifts fine through. Things I've done so far:

Changed cassette
Changed derailleur
New CNC mech hanger (replaced crappy forged original)/checked alignment

The cable routing has partial outers so I've got some Jagwire on the way and I'll replace with full length and new cable. I'm not convinced that will fix it though.

STW hive mind have any other ideas what could be causing this?

Cheers

See my post from a couple of hours ago here:

EDIT - Aha! I see you mention checked alignment. As you were...

Checked B-tension?

Otherwise I'd say it's cabling - routing and or quality/contamination. I'd replace with Shimano and don't go full-outer. (jagwire is not that good IME).

Stupid modern gear systems with not enough cable pull!

@cynic-al

B-tension is ok. I replaced the 28T 105 cassette with a 32T XT to test, so had to wind it out and back in again for clearance.

Any reason why not full outer? Always run full on my mountain bikes, whether the frame is meant for it or not, and never had a problem.

Thought I'd update this for anyone facing a similar problem.

The Jagwire kit turned up today and I fitted full length outers and new teflon cables to the rear. Problem immediately fixed, shifting is crisp and indexing took a minute to setup.

Cables. it's always the cables. Last outer before the RD is often contaminated and causing excess friction. Replace is my cure. I've yet to have the hanger be the culprit, despite replacing one!
