I'm sure you all remember a few months back that I tentatively asked about where to live in Sheffield.
No?
That's a suprise ๐
I've been here a few months now and the exams I've been studying for are over (yay). I've also moved to edgedale rd (for whatever difference that makes!)
This is the first week I've brought my bike up so I'm looking for advice / some friendly and patient sheffielder to tell me where I can go ride.
Some buyer bewares.
1) I've not ridden for three months and my fitness is just worse than non-existent
2) I'm an utter jey boy and can't jump, don't own body armour and would prefer to keep my teeth and facial features just where they are ta very much!
So, given all of that, anyone out there? ๐
Where about in Sheffield do you live, as this will help when telling you where the good routes are.
Edgedale road (Abbeydale?)
Blacka Moor by the looks then ๐ that's not far from me by the looks cheers
ian
Edgedale Road is not far from me at all, as I live just off CaterKnowle. We'll have to meet up for a ride
The Bike Tree do rides from the shop on a Weds night (Tomorrow) think they set off at 7pm, but I could be wrong
There's a corkin' route that was in the Mag about 18 months ago, as curated by Si from Cotic bikes.
It's a classic 'figure of eight' shaped loop on the Sheffield side. Follow this hapless descripion on an OS map and you should see it.
Basically, you head up over to Totley Moor (muddy!), go across there and turn right at the end, down the road to the Fox &... pub on the corner. Take a right there and head up over the Roman road that goes over Burbage moor (whoopingly good fun). Get to the end of the Roman road and turn left on the tarmac road. Follow this to a T-junct and turn left opposite a pub. Take first right and follow this road up and over the Sheffield facing side of the Peak. Following so far? At the first T-junct, take a left then follow this road to another T beside a farm and left again. This road should take you all the way up to Stanage (a great smooth climb!). Once at the top of Stanage, you have 2 options. Bear right and follow the (again) second Roman road that you are on (less technical), or drop almost directly of the edge of Stanage, to find a rocky technical descent. Either way, you end up back on a road which you'll need to turn right on. Follow this road 'till another T and take a left, following the road upwards towards Burbage rocks. At the next T take another left and you'll pass Burbage rocks on your right. Following this road for about another mile you should come across a bridlepath on Burbage moor that will eventually bisect the Roman road you've already ridden along. Continue straight over (i.e. bisect you previous route!) and connect with another road to take a left. Left again at the next T and you should find a great bridlepath on your left eventually that drops through the woods to end up back at Totley(?). My memory's a bit vague on names! From this point you can ride home via Abbeydale road to home, exhausted.
The mag had this route down as 4-6 hours if I remember rightly.
Hope that helps! Have fun! ๐
I reckon the Bike Tree is the place to start. My bro-in-law goes out with them quite a lot (Dave, on the Kinesis) and rates it. Just down the road from you on Abbeydale Road, out towards Dore/Totley. Give 'em a bell to find out what time.
Ian - you've got mail!
(and Blacka is in there)
