I may have, subject to wifely negotiations the means to acquire one of these bikes. Both fulfill a similar purpose but which is better? I've always fancied a titanium bike but the Shand is lovely. I already have a singular osprey which I shan't be getting rid of but the caad 10 will need to go. Will either double as a reasonably quick roadie for club runs? I can 'just' keep up with club runs on the osprey but the build is sturdy do it can get hard work. Any help on the tripster/stoater conundrum.

I've had ti and liked it. But I love my stoater. I've done a couple of middle group club runs and kept up fine. Someone fitter could without doubt go faster but I am what I am;) I usually go out alone on road and offroad though as I like to explore and do my own thing

Any excuse for a posh pic 😉

That is lovely fire starter. Greg, unlikely to be doing puffer this time round. Were you camped next to us the year before last?

Was a bit down the hill from you Dan. There's a few of us doing it solo and quad this year, looks like no walkers team this year though, apart from Drew. Can always count on Drew!.

I can only dream of being in a position to open wifely negotiations on this issue.

But I'm a sucker for any thread with Shand in the title

I've always had a hankering for a Shand, but never ridden one. I think it will have a struggle on its hands to be a better bike to ride than a Tripster IMHO.

I would quite happily have either or both of these. I think the tripster ight edge it though. Maybe. I don't know. They're so similar to the Peregrine that I'd only be shopping if something terrible happened to the Peregrine.

Two other custom bikes that have caught my eye recently. Orange is clearly the colour for this sort of thing, although the Time Machine is a bit of a different sort of thing.

Theres a 54cm Tripster ex demo frame only on upgradebikes for £799 (will need forks).. Its Ti so any light scratch will prolly polish out anyhows.

http://outlet.upgradebikes.co.uk/Outlet/Frames/Kinesis/Tripster/Kinesis-Tripster-ATR-Ti

I got my Tripster from Upgrade as it had a tiny scratch on the forks for £999

Firestarter, how fast is mid paced? Do you find yourself lagging on the hills on a club run?

What about the Skinnymalinky? Shand's out and out road frame, keeping the Peregrine for any off-road/gravel type...

Dan Ave is 16mph so not mega fast by any means but that's me not the bike. I know I'm working harder on the hill than my mates as I can tell but I manage.I think that tbh the hub gear and it's gear ratios perhaps don't help when riding alongside normal geared folk but I'd never give up the rohloff. I did once and regretted it ever since. I still badger the the guy I sold it to to sell me it back as I'd like my mtb rohloff too. But he won't 🙁

Thanks all for comments. I love the bike I can't see how it could possibly be bettered 🙂

Firestarter and nedrapier, what mudguards are you using, they both look very neat.

hudders - neither of those are mine, unfortunately. Google "Oak Cycles Time Machine" you'll find plenty on it. Quite an interesting project.

I have been riding a Tripster most days since February.

I've been riding pretty regularly since the 90's....I still get a bit spurt pants when I ride the ATR.....

Stoater is nice for sure.

You won't be upset with a Tripster....makes sure you get hydraulic disks....soooo much better than mechanical and you will notice the difference if you do a bit of light touring.

It's not a quick bike to accelerate compared to a proper road bike, but it just glides over bumpty stuff and you finish a long ride not feeling like you've been beat up.

Cheers guys, a set of Curana C-Lite mudguards have been ordered from a German company on eBay as I couldn't find a UK seller, was about £35 posted.

Can echo the Tripster love, although I came from a low end OCR which I found perfectly adequate, the Tripster is a bit lighter and feels smoother, plus has that mental lift of a lovely bike.

Agree if you're building from scratch - I have HY/RD SPyres and they are good, but the Shimano full hydros might yet be an upgrade.

Probably not - i've not had a nice sub 8Kg carbon rocket to compare it with other than the odd loan - but with a good road wheelset it feels in no way sluggish.

The Stoater looks a fine bike and ticked my boxes, but this was a once a decade purchase for me, and I wanted to be sure the road side was as good or better than the OCR - the Tripster delivers everything I wanted (for a price ofc).
