Enjoying a splendid spin along the South Downs on the full rig 10inch travel bike, and I pass a weak girly looking lost on her Carbon road bike, I stopped (who wouldn't, poor little dear with a bike) to ask if she needed help, and indeed she did.
Not only were her legs were horrifyingly too weak. But after a few "I'm fine!'s" I eventually got the answer I was looking for. She was of course lost! After a little gentle persuasion (and a lot of force, I kept my clothes on being a gentleman) I pushed her 18 miles to a sign post.
She then went on to explain to me that she'd been out riding with a map, however half way along her ride she realised she had no idea what a map was for and which way up it went; I almost fainted amongst the slippy chalk downs.
Now I'm sure all the chaps out there would have done the same but it was also the girls first ride with a map I got the impression she was jolly miffed that she didn't have a bloke to tell her which way to go!
Should she been allowed out on her own? maybe a chaperone or a Sat Nav at the very least to help her along. I cannot account for the precise happenings of what went on but the end factor was a she was out for the first time having to navigate on her own!
Possibly a few training tips and recommendations from men would have been a better idea.
And discuss....
