Hi,

I would like to upgrade my current 04 Kona Hoss to a bike that I could then use for a few winter races/winter duathlons. I would like to stay with a HT and my budget means second hand also. I mainly ride around the New Forest and single tracks.

Bikes I am looking at so far are:

Cube LTD team/race
Kona Kula
Focus black forest pro
boardman pro
Whyte 905

Or do I save some more and look at second hand bikes like cannondale Flash carbon or whyte 19? but this will take a while.

Any recommendations most welcome.

The Ghost SE 7002 seems reasonable too, anyone any thoughts?

Those Whyte 19s are great.

Best advice if on a budget is get the best frame you can afford, the bike will feel good even with average bits on it, the other bits will wear out and then you can upgrade gradually. If you buy a poor frame with really good bits the bike still feels wrong and it's a pITA to upgrade it later.

Thanks, I would have to wait a while for the whyte 19.

Been looking at the BeOne Karma race/comps, they seem good value in the sales at 899/699.

There is just too many bikes!

get a good frame, you'll break everything else.

On one scandal is a reliable shout for dipping your tah in racing. You'd get the frame for £100 s/h, they get knocked down to £150 new periodically. Good light alu frame. Spend the rest of your budget on decent wheels etc. If the racing works out you can upgrade to something classier later on.
