Anyone cycled across the Severn bridge on the M48? Understand there is a cycle lane available. I'm looking at trying to get from Bath to Chepstow then up to Monmoth and then head north.
Yes, done it, twice. Once cycling Land's End John O'Groats and the other cycling to a mate in Hereford.
Yep great views and fine as long as it is not too windy! + you get to see how knackered and lumpy that bridge is...

Yep loads of times, most recently on Saturday when I had serious concerns about being blown off the side. Both sides of the bridge have a path of pedestrians, cylists and mopeds, it's best to go over on the side furthest up the channel as you get a little shelter from the road if it's windy.
When going there avoid the A403 Avonmouth road as it's busy with lots of artics from the distribution centres, use their are plenty of alternative backroads including ncn routes. Once over the bridge the Wye Valley road to Monmouth is the straightest and flatest option although it can be a little busy with weekend drivers. Some of the less direct routes are fantastic but you'll have to climb (and descend) more.

Yep, done that exact route in reverse (Monmouth-Chepstow-Bristol-Bath). Sustrans route 4 between Bath and Chepstow via Severn Bridge, then as already mentioned the Wye Valley Road (A466) to Monmouth. Stop off at Tintern Abbey for an ice-cream.
Don't get to alarmed when the bridge bounces up and down when a truck goes past you.
It's definitely there! Did it in March on Lejog. Head for Aust on the north side of the M48 and you will pick up signs.
