Hi,

I want to service my Tech3 E4s, replacing the piston seals, as I've had some issues with binding.

Any advice on grease to use to coat the seals with please?

I'm guessing silicone grease, but anything specific?

Any other advice gratefully received. 🙂

Ta.

£8.75 or try ebay, usually a few sellers.

i found a little pack of assorted kids paintbrushes work really well 99p at home bargains/bm/wilkos etc

if the pistons are shot, get some stainless steel ones HBSP432

Been a while since i ditched hope brakes from the fleet but used to regularly use silicon spray, pistons in and out a couple of time, bit more spray then job done.

Might be worth a try to save some time.

Bigger services usually at pad change time I used to paint my RC car pure silicon shock oil on the pistons. And worked a treat. Only because I had it in the garage. And its silicone.

Silicone is silicone.

Do the ‘new’ E4 pistons fits the ‘old’ E4 callipers? If so, might do this to my old E4s before the summer Alps visit. (Same for the pads? Hearing good things about the ‘new’ Hope compounds)

Any silicone lube will do. The hunter's stuff is for plumbers assembling pipe joints and just been jumped on as Hope happen to use it so the little bottles marketed as such are well overpriced.

Silicone lube, red rubber grease, brake fluid, whatever you fancy as long as it is compatible with the seals and brake fluid. Non bike specific is massively cheaper.

Normal grease is not suitable for rubber seals.

Check the seal grooves for corrosion.
