So, after recently bragging about how maintenance-free my hubs are, my rear hub has developed a bit of side-to-side play.
Is it a big job to service, or should I entrust a shop? What parts do I need to replace etc?
Ta!
You just* need to whack the old bearings out and pop some new ones in.
* this can be quite tricky.
The main problem I had when I did this is the 2 bearings in the freehub are separated by an aluminium sleave, which means there is very little to get a purchase on to whack them out - i had to bash my screw driver into the sleave to cut a channel in it so that the screw driver could then contact the bearing properly to bash it out.
No doubt there is a better way of doing this.
simple to remove and replace the cartidge bearings - heat the hub with hot water ( tie a cloth around it and pour a kettleful of boiling watr over it) and freeze the new bearings to make it easier.
Thanks for all the pointers chaps, I'll give it a whirl! ๐
