It's time for my rear shock to get a service so I was thinking:

It looks like brain surgery but has anyone serviced a shock successfully and would be able to share some tips or is it not worth the hassle?
I've done them when helping out Simon at Loco in the past, and wouldn't recommend it as a diy option, lot's of small parts to lose/get mixed up, difficult to access seals, specialist tools inc high pressure nitrogen with hypodermic syringes, clinical cleanliness required, and very time consuming too. Even though i'm capable of it, my shocks still go to the specialists for servicing, and if you speak to somebody like J-Tech, it may well be worth having it custom tuned to your requirements at the same time (Simon did my RP23, and it was like a completely different shock, no chatter, no blowing through, and not far off the equal of my new Float-X). Hope this helps.
