[#1905826]

have a mate who's after a hybrid but I think he'll end up regretting lack of tyre room in the end and reckon a 29er and semi-slicks would be better. Does such a thing as a "proper" 29er mtb exist for under about £500 ? (lower the better)

or am I wrong anyway ?

What he said - £200 though it's SS but for the difference you could buy gears (it has a standard rear wheel)

so it's a cassette hub with a conversion on it then, clubber ? Anyone know if it's definitely a "9sp" freehub ?

Yes it is. Pretty sure someone (the muffin man?) on here had added gears - do a search on 'mojito'.

Here's a good start: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/any-diamondback-mojito-29er-owners-out-there-2

Or this for £550 though it's Mark Anthony so I'd suggest paying by credit card in case...
