A couple of weeks ago I bought myself a pair of Bibs in 'L' thinking the fit seemed OK for my bulky torso, I trundled off out for a ride, by the halfway point it was clear to me they're for someone at least 3" taller than me. I've since bought the same bibs in M and they are perfect.
So now I'm stuck with some Bibs that I can't return, and looking on eBay it seems people do flog used Bibs, obviously I've washed them, but is it a bit minging to flog used Bibs shorts, in my mind it's basically selling my used underwear, slightly worse in thet I've sweated all over them for a few hours.
At the same time they're useless to me, and so long at they've been thoroughly cleaned it should be perfectly fine for someone else to get a relative bargain and make some use of them...
Or is it just disgusting? (In which case eBay is clearly full of wronguns)...
Might get more from special interest groups if you don't wash them.
I wouldn't personally buy used shirts but if someone wanted to buy mine, that's on them.
The internet is full of wrong 'uns for unused bibs
It's also full of folks looking for a bargain. I reckon they'd sell.

A younger me was happy to rummage in charity shops for interesting old shirts, I don't recall every seeing any pre-loved undercrackers on sale though. These days I'm not really a used clothing customer.
I suppose that's the thing, my own standards/snobbery/self regard (call it what you will) wouldn't allow me to buy used Bibs, but is it therefore wrong to sell my own? I don't like the wastefulness of just binning them when they're otherwise fine.
Apparently Japanese businesses men aren't into middle-aged British blokes undergarments, so that avenue is closed down.
I suppose I could keep them and just put them through a couple of hot washes and tumble dryer cycles to try to shrink them (does that work?)
I guess I will probably just eBay them off (with a full description of their history) and take whatever is bid, they're not bad shorts, just the wrong size for me...
I wouldn't exactly bring it up in polite conversation, but I've bought used bibs before. Stuck them in the wash just to be sure, got over my squeamishness and after the first ride forgot all about it.
Actually now I think about it, I've sold used bibs as well. 21st century washing machines are wonderful things! 😂
My comment was supposed to say shorts, not shirts
If it's just the bins being too long, perhaps you could find a local garment repaired to shorten the straps.
As Onzadog says, it would probably be better to get them altered than tumble them (which will probably ruin them).
I’n sure there are people out there who will buy them.
When I was a student we rocked up at a campsite in Wales to find some forgotten bib shorts drying on a fence. My friend not only took them, but wore them the next day. 🤢
People stay in hotels and sleep in sheets that will likely have seen much worse than your bib shorts
I'd have no problem buying used bibs, I'd just wash them myself before using
Any point adjusting the straps - i.e. cut and sew them shorter ?
I remember a holiday with Bike Verbier several years ago. They had a washing machine there so midweek, people did a wash and stuff was hung out to dry. I remember an American chap had hung stuff out and the image that sticks with me was shorts, hung inside out as you do. Black lycra, blue pad, brown stripe.
So many questions. Why didn't that wash out? More importantly, how did it get there? Am I built differently because I sit on my sit bones so while it's very close, I'm not actually pressing the balloon knot into the saddle.
Keep them for trainer use? It's where my old bibs go to die...
But yeah try to sell them first, I wouldn't buy but plenty might.
Bibs are expensive, so I imagine there would be a market for them. Having said that, while I like a bargain I would certainly think more than twice at a pair of used bibs.
Surely modifying them is the way to go?
It's personal choice but whilst I will buy second hand tops (mostly when there is an interesting one) I won't buy second hand bibs... I appreciate that modern washing machines are good and that hotel sheets have seen terrible things but you can't boil wash a set of bib shorts 🙂 each to their own though

I'd probably spray the pad with isopropol alcohol before washing, mostly just to make myself feel better
Put them on ebay.. what's the worst that could happen? They sell, they don't sell...
Keep em for spring/autumn. Halfway to 3/4's?
This reminds me of a second hand cycle jersey I once had. Can't remember where it came from, possibly a charity shop. No matter how it was washed, after an hour or so riding it would start smelling of the previous owner's BO/sweat. Some synthetic fabrics just seem to lock in smells and bacteria that doesn't come out. After that I started buying merino tops and going round smelling like wet sheep instead.
I've bought used Rapha Bib 3/4 off eBay when they stopped production and the dog ate my previous pair (don't ask). Worn once and washed? Stick them on eBay, they'll sell fine and I wouldn't hesitate to buy. One pair of my club bibs were owned by another rider who suffered the same as you.

I've checked into a Premier Inn at 3am and the previous occupant had pissed the bed.
The smell was bad enough but I was knackered enough to put it down to being a ground floor room with an open window problem. Nope, the bed was still soaked.
Weirdest thing was reception didn't bat an eyelid and just kept on their conversation with another customer whilst they did me another key, like it was just a normal thing for them🤮
I've bought and sold used bibs (only ones in good condition mind, not something that could walk its own way into the bin). Never had a problem with any I've bought (or had any I've sold returned).
I seem to remember a story about a team of four guys who all did a 24hr mountain bike race in the same bib shorts - yes, when they swapped riders, they also swapped shorts. Wacky eh?
I once worked with a guy (in his 40s, on the railway as a coss) who would give every hotel £100 on checkout as he pissed the bed every night. No shame in it.
Mind and share your eBay or classifieds ad.
I sold two pairs of rapha bibs on vinted. Literally sold within ghe hour.

Team Hugh Jass.
Denim look shorts too as I recall.
They will sell, undoubtedly.
The thing is that you probably don't want to sell them to anybody who is too keen to buy them.
😉

Don't use a blue light on the mattress. 🤮

Nah, I was joking about tumble drying them to fit, having tried the Medium version the overall fit is much better, for clarity I'm talking about Madison Roams (because of all the pockets see). I'd not tried Madison kit before.
It's maybe just a wider issue with cycling garment 'fit' because I come up as a 'Large' in lots of other companies kit, I looked at the sizing charts and figured that being on the cusp measurements wise going bigger is typically the better choice. I'm definitely a 'L' in castelli or Rapha or Endura or any of the more commonly discussed kit manufacturers.
A Madison 'L' seems to be for a 6'1"+ bloke with a reasonably "robust" build. I'm 5'10" and while I need to lose a stone (and more) they're still a bit looser fitting than would quite work, but not enough that I didn't twig immediately.
The only other kit I've encountered similar sizing issues with is Galibier, a Large pair of Galibier cargo bibs, their earlier version (things might have changed now) the torso length was OK, but there was a just a bit more looseness to the fit around the middle and at the leg grippers and the pad had trouble staying put after a while in use, I still have them but they would ruin my undercarriage if I ride for more than about 3 hours in them, that sort of put me off their shorts TBH. I recently got one of their jerseys again in Large which is a good 'snug' fit, while the size Large Insulated Gilet I had from them has a fair bit of room to spare (perhaps that's intentional?), this is all making me wonder if they're not just a bit all over the shop with fit.
Yup, it’s a lottery unless you try them on in an actual shop. I’m your exact Madison L, but XL or XXL or in Castelli. 6’2” and 92kg. Regular clothes I’m more often an L than XL. If it’s just the length Ikd get a clothes alteration place to do a cut and shut, my sster had a Volvo like that, she couldn’t tell until she crashed it.
Throw them on Vinted, either they sell or they don’t. There’s plenty on there so someone may be buying them.
