[#11060476]

So my 72 year old dad has decided that he doesn't use his road bike enough to warrant keeping it. Where's the best place to sell it? It's a steel framed Pearson something or other with a campanaglio (spelling?) groupset.

Really nice bike to ride but too small for me otherwise I'd have nabbed it.

Initial thoughts were here or pinkbike but they're more MTB focussed.

Ta.

I find the best place to start is a stealth add.

What year is it? Maybe retro bike if its got some years behind it?

Haha, knew someone would say that 😆

It's not that old, only about 6 years so not really retro. Although it's a straight fork, cantis and qr wheels.

Put some pics up on here, Campagnolo groupsets can be worth good money depending on what level groupset they are and the age

As for selling ebay is normally the best place, put a reserve of what you are willing to take and make it a collection only auction, that's how i sell my road bikes

Or join a retro road bike group on Facebook

Ebay, lots of pictures, bang in the keywords to catch the campag and traditional steel fanbois, time it to finish just after payday too.

People basically get bidding fever and pay way over the odds on ebay, which is what you want as a seller.

I like buy-it-now listings on ebay, using the "best offer" function to allow a bit of a haggle

Here you go

This one went for £300 despite a lack of gears

This one sold for £700 despite being a niche gravel oddity with strange bars https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202871285133

conversely, it's a slow day and it goes for less than you'd hoped. Have a look at almost any item and click "completed" and see the disparity in final sale prices. Only this morning I picked up a CX bike I "won" on ebay, I'd bid 600 and got it for less than 500.

Facebook marketplace - and specific bike sale pages not just Marketplace. "Cycling Sales Europe", "Road, time trial and triathlon bikes and parts for sale" are two generic pages I use, plus there's 'niche' pages that are specific to a county, region or discipline (e.g. I also use buying and selling cycling stuff in Oxfordshire, Cyclocross buy and sell).

Seem to get fewer scammers and "swopz 4 Xbox?" than Gumtree, and none of the fees of eBay. Similar bikes to the one I got on ebay have sold for more on FB than I paid (I based my bid on typical prices for bikes that spec).

I've used the cyclinguk forum a few times now and found it to be great. Lots of old skool roadie types on there who appreciate a bit of quality steel. What size is the bike but the way?
