[Closed] Self healing taped seams on waterproof clothing.

Just been to buy a waterproof product from a well known manufacturer at a well known national chain. Found one of the security tags stuck through a seam and through the seam tape on the other side. When I pointed this out, I was told they do this to all the kit and that the seam will "seal" once the pin is removed.

Have I misunderstood the idea of taped seams? Is there some new technology I'm unaware of? Happy to learn if I am wrong but I did find myself thinking he was spouting bollox.
