Just spent 20 mins with a roll of the stuff coveing my fork crown and cables to prevent gritty cable rub. Great stuff ime. Never comes off like electrcians tape, doesn't seem to snag, leaves no residue.
Does the same as those slide over rubber frame protectors that canyon et al make.
It is awesome, i have just re-covered the chainstay and seat-stays on my mojo with the stuff. It is even better than a chainstay protector as it keeps the grit out and doesnt slide around. I still use heli-tape on the rest of the bike though.
Used it for years, also very good if you can get the small (10mm) stuff, and put a few wraps around the cables where they are likely to rub, just bounces off the frame instead of clanging like a cable.
Only downside is that you have to cut it off, ie it's not re-usable, and not cheap. And you will need to take it off eventually, on the likes of a chainstay, all the grit and sh1t gets under it, and water.
got a great big roll of blue stuff, if anyone wants some.

It's a tape that is non adhesive, but stretchy and rubber, so won't stick to your frame, but wrap it onto itself, and it self amalgamates.

Tis just the job for those who bought DX Bastid lights. Sorts the battery waterproofing out a treat it does.
Had a pin hole on my 15mm water main under the kitchen sink.
Got some S.A. tape and stretched it around the hole, wrapping it around about four times. Not a drip since and that was 6 years ago.

I've got a roll I was going to use on my chainstay, but am I right in thinking from this thread that it does not stick to the frame but just to itself?

This is the pattern I used, just overlap it slightly. Took two rolls to do both sides. Still needed to be checked regularly for wear through though.

No, it's got no adhesive to it, it's immensely stretchy & bonds itself, to itself.
I don't find it that great though, chains chop through it like nobody's business on the chainstay. It's handy for awkward shapes though.
Industrial strength soft side velcro is far better & multiple times more durable too. Not the cheap stuff that peels off if you even wave a hose in its general direction though.
No, doesn't stick to the frame like normal sticky tape. He's wrapped that in the same way that road bikes wrap bar tape so the overlapped parts stick to each other.

I use SA tape on my chainstays and it seems robust - no cuts etc after almost a year. The trick is not to stretch it too thin and to ensure a good overlap so it's 2 or 3 layers thick.

I have done it exactly the same. In fact I have vinnyeh's old frame, the one on the pic 🙂
