Wife is going on a road ride with a friend at the weekend staying in Sedburgh.

Can anyone suggest a ~40 mile route for pleasure riding and enjoying the area rather than hammering?

Much obliged in advance!

This is ours from last weekend.
Note the first small climb/descent is cheeky

have a look at this https://www.strava.com/activities/298183186 but at mile 11.6 turn right instead of left, and then re-join the route at mile '45'. That will be a 30 miler with just one big climb (Coal Road). If you don't fancy the Coal Rd. then you can stay on the A684 but it's a fast A road so not that nice. There aren't that many roads around Sedburgh... so hitting 40 miles and 'easy' isn't straightforward.

Sedburgh to Hawes and back or

Sedburgh to Garsdale head to Nateby to ravenstonedale to sedburgh

Possible round the Howgills for a bit longer but the A683 isn't that pleasant a road to ride on (edit after tons post - the bit after Tebay if going clockwise)

circuit of the Howgills is a obvious choice, and very nice too. the road from Sedbergh that runs parallel to the M6 is cracking.
28 miles with a nice cafe at Tebay and a cracking pub at Ravonstonedale.

Round to Dent and either the Barbon Road or up over Deepdale to Ingleton and then loop back round
