[Closed] seat tube puzzle - rocky mountain blizzard

[#3082416]

I've got a 2006 rocky mountain blizzard; it is my do anything hardtail which ends up seeing most of my UK riding.

Until very recently it has had a carbon USE sumo seatpost stuck in it (previous owner had put it in there, and it wasn't budging, but was the right height for me, so no bother).

Having moved house, gained a man-cave and bought a vice, I have now been able to finally remove the post, and was planning to stick a thomson in there (which I had anyway).

The USE post was 27.2, and so is the thomson. I can't get the thomson in more than about 4", which is how much insertion the sumo had.

Looking at the seat tube closely, it looks like there is a bulge in the tube down to that depth and an appreciable ridge before narrower tube below.

Has it been forced in the past?... a bit of googling suggests that it should have had a 26.8mm post in.

What are my options? ream it out to 27.2? get a 26.8 which will rattle around in the top of the tube? buy a new frame (bear in mind I love this frame!).

Dave

ps for those not in the know, blizzard frames are reynolds 853 steel.

If it looks like 26.8 further down, then use a 26.8 post with a 27.2 shim?

A 26.8 -> 27.2 shim will be 0.2mm thin, won't survive much movement, use a coke can.

I'd just leave it as is. No way would it have been forced in there, but someone may have reamed it out.

but what do you mean 'leave it as is'?

I can't get my seatpost (27.2) in to the seat tube, and if I buy a 26.8, it will be loose at the top by .4mm.

Are you saying stick a 26.8 in and tighten up the clamp?

No, cut the SP to length so it's OK with 100mm insertion.

I want to be able to drop the post... if I had been happy with a post I couldn't lower, I wouldn't have bothered removing the stuck one.
