Carbon paste is a good shout, I'd consider measuring the frame and post for tolerances/wear too any LBS that has carbon paste will probably have a micrometer. Had 27.2 post that wore to 27 in places.

thomson elite seat post and a yeti big top frame.... (no carbon, all ally)

Sometimes hard anodising on the post causes this - in the past I've knurled the post to solve it.

Without trying to sound thick (and probably failing), how does one knurl a post?

Carbon paste +1, my whyte's seatpost used to move constantly, & with their "big dropper' SP clamp you have no option to change it, the paste sorted it out

Salsa Liplock worked for me....

I had a strange issue with a skipping post. Turned out my QR clamp had quite a deep lip, so the lip hit the post before the clamp really compressed the seat tube. In effect it was acting only as a stop and not a clamp. I filled off the lip and solved the issue. I doubt that's the OPs issue but hey.

Never had a problem with Thomson posts.

None of that fangled carbon paste stuff. if it's an alloy post in alloy frame a bit of this stuff does it wonders:

Toothpaste.

Honestly it works. Mine was doing the same, smear a bit on the tube - done. Carbon pastes tend to have small bits of grit in them designed to provide biting grip but these can cause wear and pitting on carbon components under constant load.

Toothpaste does the job for nothing (assuming you brush regularly and have a supply handy)

if you don't like it a bit of water washes it off - no need for degreaser

Not had a problem with Thomson posts - have several. Mind you, I don't tend to exert a great load on the posts, either. Sometimes the QR needs some tighten adjust on the 'other' side..

Scandal stays up tight no problem, soul has been a bit of a problem, have to do the qr really effing tight to stop it moving, and something in the seat tube has rubbed a line of anodising off the post down the front, despite filing any burs off around the top.

I couldn't get my new Thomson to stop creaking in Soul, even with FiberGel. Sold the post and use either Reverb or a RaceFace one, neither creak..

A while back there were double seatpost clamps available. The top bit clamped securely against the seatpost and the lower bit against the the frame.

The neat thing was you only had to loosen the lower bit to remove the post so your exact seatpost height was retained when you put it back in.

Dead handy if you have to remove the seatpost to get it bike in the car.

I was looking for one of those recently but can't find it. I may have seen it on a folding bike forum originally.
