Whats people's opinion on these, are they ok to use or just a stop gap?

They can be ok - used an ale can shim a couple of times with success.

Obv getting the right size seatpost is preferable, but some frames are just a wee bit out of spec that they won't take the post securely. And you're not going to throw the frame away when you can sort it for the price of a can of stella.

Fine - I like the plastic ones as they creak less ๐Ÿ™‚

Giant specced them for years on their frames - 27.2 seatposts in fat seat tubes.
