After much futile pulling and twisting, putting in a vice, drilling and bending iron bars I resorted to sawing off to half an inch and putting a hacksaw blade down.
Trouble is it's in longer than the hacksaw blade.
Now considering the caustic soda approach. This is an alloy post in a steel frame.
Anyone tried this got any advice? Do I need to do it upside down, or block one end? How long does it take.
And most importantly where do you get said caustic soda from?
have you tried warming the seat tube up with a hot air gun or a hair dryer?
or even some sort of penetrating lubricant, such as plus gas
Tried some WD40?
Thought about heating but read that alloy expands more than steel.. ๐
Cooling would be a goer if I had some way to cool it.
Although there is not much left to tug on any more.
You can buy caustic soda crystals from a hardware store. I mixed it up at high concentration with warm water (against the advice on the tub since it gets quite hot on it's own, but I was tring to dissolve the end of a crank off a seized pedal axle so had a chunk of alumium to get through). Took about half an hour of bubbling away before enough crank had gone to free the axle.
Reckon you'd need to block the top inch of seatpost with blu tack or plasticine, turn the frame over above a bucket and pour the soda in the BB. Leave it till it all ends up in the bucket. Take care cos it will strip paint and turn your skin into soap. Make sure it's all done in a very well ventilated space cos it relases hydrogen which will gather in the highest point of an enclosed space and then go boom. Have fun!
