Anybody ever got a pair of these and fiund that they arent waterproof afterall or have i possibly got a faulty pair as my for was wet after wearing them for the first time the other day? I only rode through a few puddles too but when i got back to car my foot was really quite wet. Should i contact the shop i got them from and tell them or contact the company and tell them? £20 is a fair bit of cash for a pair of waterproof socks that arent even waterproof.

They should be totally waterproof. You can test them by filling them up with water.

The taller ones (knee length) are better for this but its as bruneep says, its the big hole and your legs act like drainpipes channeling the water down. Personally I like them and they work well for me but I am conscious of their weak point. If its raining I tend to use Livestrong-style wrist bands around the top of the sock to improve the seal but not everyone has the dainty calves to do this

They aren't breathable either. My liner socks are normally pretty damp after a ride.

I've bought the knee-length ones now, much better at keeping legs warm and keeping water out.

Unfortunately there is no way of getting away from your legs having water running down the inside of the socks unless you wear something like waterproofs over the top. Mainly use mine for winter along with neoprene overboots and long tights to stop my feet getting wet and then suffering from cold. Not too bothered about wet feet when it is warm 😀

In the deep, dark winter, this year, I was tucking my mid length Sealskinz, under my 3/4 length bibs.

Seemed to do the trick

Wool socks or if it is really cold out then http://www.nookie.co.uk/tisox/

Second post has it - your feet won't stay dry as the socks have a big hole in.

IMO They're not waterproof.

I used mine for walking and they still leaked despite the fact that no water entered through the tops, what I did notice was, although my feet where wet they where still warm.

I tend to get a little water in but compared with no sealskinz, it is night and day- very little leakage and much more warmth (as the little water that does get in, isn't getting constantly changed for new cold water). Wouldn't be without them in winter. I've a feeling with the short ones, fit's really important- the bigger the leg, the tighter the fit and the less the leakage maybe.

Care is also really important- don't get them hot!

Oh lastly, Gore socks I found *ing awful, I don't know if they're waterproof as they were so unpleasant to wear I never rode a bike with them on. Designed by someone who's never had feet, I think. So if anyone wants to buy a pair of *ing awful Gore socks, worn once for several minutes, think they are size 8-9... Let me know 😉

mine were and still are 100% waterproof, except for it seeping in the top, which I rarely find happens although im sure it does, I bought mine to keep my toes dry as I suffer with knumb feet/toes when they get wet/cold, worth every penny

Wear a liner to help with dampness from sweat and to protect the sock from toe nail attack. Get a pair of heavy duty marigolds, cut the hands off and use what's left to make very effective gaiters for the shorter socks.

They are good to put on mid ride when your woollie bollies are wet. That's about it tho.

Yes they are waterproof & guaranteed to be.
The big hole at the top lets water in though, especially if it hits your leg & runs down.
Test them by standing in a bucket & see if they leak.
The only place they tend to go is right on the toe, but that's usually due to long toe nails perforating the membrane.
