[Closed] Scratched upper tube on Fox Forks?

[#1635140]

Just carried out a "Dust Wiper Seal Quick Clean and Lube" as Fox forks require at regular intervals and managed to put a scratch in one of the upper tubes (which they strongly recommend not to do when performing this task). The fork is a 2009 32 Float RLC.

How much of an issue is this, are my forks dead.....what do I need to do to put things right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about it unless they start leaking oil. I scratched one of my stantions on a rock a couple of years ago and it's never been a problem.

If the scratch is deep it could lead to dirt in the lowers, which will result in accelerated bushing wear. Can be fixed with nail varnish and very carefull sanding with wet and dry.

Somebody posted a guide to fixing this a while back.

Basically it's as above, fill with nail varnish then carefully sand smooth with wet and dry

something like alpin's post here:
