Hi,
I'm doing some touring in the Scottish borders in a few weeks time, from Berwick to penrith and planning on a mix of road and off road riding. So far i plan on doing part of the reivers route from kielder to kershopefoot. But I am looking for some advice if anyone could tell me if the the old railway line from the heritage centre on the B6399 which then comes out on the B6357 just north of saughtree is rideable, and is it OK for access or is it private land? google earth appears to show a track, so I am hoping I can ride on it.
Also any other good routes in the borders area that I could use to link up these places would be appreciated. I will be on a fully loaded touring bike, so happy for gravel roads/ land rover tracks, old railway lines etc. But do not want any tight singletrack, hub deep mud or routes that would require carrying the bike.
Cheers for any advice.
Certainly fine from the Heritage Centre to Riccarton Junction. I've not physically been along the rest, but I think yes - it's do-able. It is signposted as a cycle route at Riccarton Junction (if I remember correctly).
You should be fine on it. The original ballast will still be in place below the surface.
Just to the northwest is an abandoned village and railway station.
Open access ib scotland so go where you want but don't be a dick.
